QSC sounds out the Olympics
Mar 6
QSC Audio systems are seemingly powering almost every system under construction for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
With its amplifiers in use in massive stadiums and various other venues under construction for the games, QSC is also supplying the digital networks that will monitor proprietary DSP systems providing full system control and loudspeaker protection.
The National Stadium is the largest project on the list where 52 QSC CX 702 amplifiers will power the stadium’s PA system in conjunction with CX 902s, CX 502s and a C X302.
Four CM 16a network monitors running on QSControl.net, and linked to the DataPort-equipped amplifiers, will provide 16 channels of audio level control and amplifier management.
Renowned Swiss architects Herzog & DeMeuron designed the 80,000-capacity stadium in conjunction with the China Architecture Design Institute. The stadium will host all of the Games’ track and field events and the football championships.
Another stadium using the company’s amplifiers is the 60,000-seat Shenyang Olympic Sports Centre Stadium. Scheduled to host 12 Olympic football preliminary games, it will have QSC’s amplifiers powering its PA system with three ISA 800Ti and five ISA 1350 70-volt line amplifiers in place alongside three PowerLight PL 224s and 21 PL236 units.
Further to placement in stadiums, QSC amplifiers will also run the PA system at the Beijing University of Technology and Peking University’s sports centre.
Beijing University of Technology’s gymnasium is set to host the badminton and rhythmic gymnastics disciplines, with a PA system powered by 15 PLX 1804 1,800W stereo amplifiers from QSC’s PLX2 series.
The PA system at Peking University, the home of the Olympic table tennis tournament, will be powered by a combination of eight PowerLight PL 236s, ten PL224s and a CX 204 amplifier. Three Basis 914lz processors operating over QSControl.net will handle system processing.
The Olympic Green Tennis Court will also employ the company’s amplifiers. The 17,400-seat venue’s PA system will be run by 13 PowerLight PL 4.0 amplifiers, eight CX 502s, six CS 702s and five CX 902 twin-channel amplifiers supported by four RMX 5050s. The court will be the site of the wheelchair tennis during the Paralympic Games.
Other Paralympic Games, including wrestling and seated volleyball, will be held at the China Agricultural University Gymnasium. Here, three ISA 450 and 13 ISA 750 low-impedance amplifiers will be utilised for 6,000-seat venue.
In addition, The Urban Road Cycling Course, between Yongdingmen and Juyongguan, will have its PA powered by four QSC ISA 280 low-impedance amplifiers and four ISA 300T 70-volt amplifiers.
QSC’s huge contribution to the Beijing Olympic Games was mostly spearheaded by BOSS AV systems of Shanghai and Beijing Yi Mei He Audio Co, along with many other consultants, design institutes and systems integrators.
QSC’s Asia Pacific sales manager Alan Chang commented: “Throughout the whole tendering process there was a recognition of QSC’s excellent reputation and brand recognition here in China.”
Other companies involved in the implementation of QSC’s systems in these projects were system integrators Tsinghua Tongfang, Tsinghua Taihao, Qing Hua Zi Guang, Founder Technology and others, as well as system designers such as Tico Aowei, Beijing Aotewei and Beijing Ren Ge AV Tech.
