Digital wireless to hit mid-market pricing in May
May Day 2009 will see veteran UK audio distributor MTR launch a digital wireless system that promises to revolutionise digital for the masses.
Called stageClix, it's a fully digital wireless system for guitars, basses and other instruments, developed by the Dutch company stageCiix. The first introduction, called the stageClix Jack, sets a new affordable benchmark for true digital - with an RRP of just £437 inc VAT - and it is soon to be followed by a full range of digital wireless products
According to MTR, the stageClix digital system has two major advantages over analogue alternatives: it has no compander or squelch control (because none is needed), and it has a CD quality frequency response from 20Hz-20kHz. Also, it works in the 2.4Ghz band, legal world-wide: "miles away from the under-threat VHF and UHF bands being sold off in the Government TV switchover."
Other advantages are said to include no audible delay (under three milliseconds), an end to latency problems and an extremely quiet signal to noise ratio of typically 97dB. The transmitter is about the size of a lighter, housed in an indestructible polycarbonate case, and uses rechargeable batteries, which are (quickly) recharged when the transmitter is plugged into the receiver.
When fully charged the batteries offer 15 hours of non-stop playing, and in fast-charge mode, a one hour charge gives four hours playing.
The receiver is housed in a rugged metal Stompbox sized case, with no fiddly menus, MTR says, offering true plug'n'play. Eight stageClix transmitters can be used simultaneously in one venue without interference. The range is 60 metres (line of sight), approx. 300 feet.
Significantly, the stageClix 'Jack' will be followed by three more stageClix products: a beltpack version for keyboards, microphones, wind and brass instruments, guitars and basses, body mics, piano mics, drum mics, etc., a 19" 1U powered rack housing for up to four assorted receivers, an XLR version for use with any dynamic mic, and an affordable in-ear monitoring system - all with the same specifications and ease of use, MTR says.
