Prism Sound predicts continued affiliation with VCS and announces new UK and US seminar dates
Sadie has welcomed the news that VCS Media Broadcast has been awarded a framework contract to provide audio editing and playout solutions to the BBC. The two companies have been committed to deliver a single, scalable, integrated broadcast audio solution.
Sadie’s product range of digital audio workstations and location recorders is well established at the BBC, with around 800 installations throughout the organisation. Thanks to an ongoing collaboration, Sadie workstations and VCS’ Dira radio automation products are already integrated and it is expected that this close affiliation will even be extended.
Graham Boswell, sales director of Sadie’s parent company Prism Sound said: “At Sadie, we are very pleased to see VCS as the winner of this prestigious framework agreement. We view this as an endorsement by the BBC’s project team of the solution already in place, which includes VCS and Sadie products.
“We have cooperated with VCS on a number of projects in the past and we fully expect this collaboration to continue. Both VCS and Sadie are focused on productivity and this is what makes the two companyies’ product ranges such a natural fit. As part of our on-going development work, we are now looking at ways in which we can meet future requirements for all broadcasters – for example, support for meta-data propagation and Windows seven.”
Oliver Giese, project manager of VCS’ projects department, who has been working with Sadie on the integration of the two companies’ product ranges, added: “The close Sadie/VCS business relationship started years ago. I have been working with Sadie on the tight integration of both software products since 2005. I am delighted with the result that another intelligent and sophisticated solution has been developed, which is already in use in various installations.
“We see the benefit of exposing the additional metadata and the interface could truly be refined in future, while making use of the additional propagated metadata of the Sadie software products.”
Meanwhile, Prism Sound and Sadie have also announced their next series of free educational seminars. This time there will be an opportunity for US students, producers and engineers to attend the popular events.
The seminars will fall into two categories, broadcast and music recording, with one date at each venue devoted to each topic.
The mastering seminars will focus on how Sadie digital audio workstations can be used in a mastering environment and also how Sadie location recorders fit into the recording chain. Guest speakers, along with staff from Prism Sound and Sadie, will discuss the practical aspects of mastering, as well as exploring the reasons why Sadie has become the craft editor of choice for many professionals.
For music recording students and professionals, Prism Sound’s mic to monitor tour makes a welcome return. This series aims to dispel many of the myths surrounding the recording process. Each seminar will feature short presentations from Prism Sound staff and from guest speakers, including recording professionals who can answer audience questions on recording techniques.
Jody Thorne, Prism Sound’s sales and marketing manager commented: “Students need the opportunity to learn skills that are applicable to the industries in which they will ultimately work. They also need to know about the equipment they will regularly come into contact with. We are focusing our attention on the educational sector because we recognise that this is where the producers and engineers of the future are currently getting their grounding. The aim is to give them – and any industry professional who wants to brush up on their skills – the chance to discuss new techniques, demo cutting-edge equipment and software and learn first-hand from the experiences of our guest speakers.”
The tour kicks off in October in both the UK and the US.
For the UK, the following venues have been confirmed:
Sunderland University
Edinburgh University
Birmingham City University
Leeds Metropolitan University
NUI Maynooth, Ireland

In the US the tour will visit the following cities (venues to be announced later):
