Prism Sound's free seminar programme kicks off in Birmingham

From Mic to Monitor, Prism Sound's tour of the UK and Ireland gets underway this evening with its first stop at Birmingham University.

The evening will be an insight into the latest recording techniques and will look to dispel some of the more popular myths which have filtered through the industry in recent years. The question and answer session will also provide opportunity the audience to ask pertinent questions.

"The aim of this tour is to stimulate discussion and debate amongst industry professionals as well as those new to the field of recording. We hope that people will walk away from these events enlightened and enthused, so that the techniques and information they have learnt can be implemented in the future," said Prism Sound's sales and marketing manager, Jody Thorne.

The programme is as follows:

Digital Audio Foundations: sampling and quantisation, dither, resolution and noise shaping.
- Simon Woollard (applications engineer, Prism Sound)

Multitracking and location recording in the real world
- Simon Bishop (freelance TV and film location recordist, representing Sadie)

Audio Technica

Choosing the Right Monitoring: principal monitor types, passive versus active, auditioning monitors and basic room acoustic optimisation.
- Hugh Robjohns (technical editor, Sound on Sound, representing PMC loudspeakers)

Tales from the Recording Industry
- Tony Bean, Colin Bassett and Michael Grant (5AM records)

Each stop of the tour will comprise two seminars to be held on consecutive days. The second of these is a complementary seminar hosted by Sadie which runs the day after the Prism Sound Mic to Monitor events at the same venues. Topics include mastering and radio production techniques.

As well as Birmingham, the tour will stop at (in order): Leeds, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Maynoof (near Dublin). To register for any of these events, simply click here.

Every attendee of the seminars will be entered in to a prize draw to win a studio setup comprising a Prism Sound Orpheus firewire recording interface, a copy of Sadie 6 Sound Suite, Steinberg Cubase software, an Apple Mac computer and PMC Speakers.
