Ex-Harman man heads up new division for UK supplier

Headstock, the UK supplier for Ibanez guitars and Tama drums, which grew out of the Laney Amplification operation, has opened a new division designed to deal with the new pro audio products coming out of the Italian distributor and manufacturer, Monsound, which handles the same brands as Headstock in Italy.
The division, Headstock Pro, will be headed up by Vincenzo Borrelli, who was working with Harman Pro until the end of January, and has previously worked with Mackie in this country.
The new My Audio range includes passive and active enclosures in both polypropelene and wooden cabs, passive mixers and wireless systems, and marks a new venture for Monsound, which has functioned predominantly as a distributor for its impressive 250-year history.
“I actually approached Headstock when the position of UK sales manager for the company was created,” said Borrelli. “I didn’t get that job, but then shortly afterwards Headstock approached me with the proposition of this job. I saw it as an ideal opportunity.”
My Audio was quietly launched at this March’s Frankfurt show and, Borrelli explained, brings a new twist with a touch of Italian flair to the speaker and pro audio market.
Essentially a division of one at the moment, Borrelli sees his remit very clearly. “It is up to me to make this division work. I am looking to have a team working for me within three years, and beyond that growing the division to be a fully stand-alone operation. For the present, though, I have the good fortune to have the Headstock machine working with me, which is a great company with a good reputation. It is one of the few suppliers that has maintained good relationships with its dealers and so kept its margins at an excellent level.”
He went on to explain that Monsound intended to grow its pro audio presence to eventually include touring PA systems and installation products, but for the present, Borrelli will be looking for MI stores to carry the brand at the entry level.
