Major UK MI and pro audio chain files for administration
Sound Control has filed for administration, reports mi-pro.co.uk
It has emerged that 14 Sound Control stores, including those in Manchester City and Glasgow West, have been closed with immediate effect. Manchester Salford and Glasgow City have remained open.
These are among 12 stores that will be kept open for 90 days in the hope of turning the business around to get the best price from bidders.
The announcement is sure to have an impact on the pro audio community as brands like AKG, Roland, Sennheiser and Alesis feature products in the stores' dedicated recording and live sound divisions. This will further impact the industry as Media Tools, Turnkey and Soho Sound House brand names are also owned by the Sound Control Holdings, and may face similar closures and cutbacks.
No further information was available from administrator, Deloitte, however a spokesperson from the company commented: “The teams are still all out on site. It’s a waiting game while we try to sort out things, such as staff.”
It would appear access to retrieve stock is not being given. As such, it will doubtless be the big manufacturers and suppliers who are hardest hit.

Wow!! What a shocking story. I wonder if others will soon follow.

Maybe, considering the current economic climate. Let's hope not though, eh?

At Digital Village we are saddened to hear that many of our music industry colleagues have been made redundant.
If you have been made redundant from Turnkey or Sound Control and either live or are prepared to move to the London area, please e-mail jobs@digitalvillage.co.uk as we are currently recruiting.
