Knebworth festival cancelled at the last minute

Musicweek.com has reported a last minute notice on the website of festival, Wild in the Country, that announces cancellation of the event and blames “lower than expected ticket sales and a key investor withdrawing at the last minute”.

“This is a very sad conclusion to our passionate efforts to develop an interesting and credible addition to the UK festival market,” it adds. “Unfortunately, Wild in the Country has become the latest in a series of festivals that have suffered from a unique and well-documented set of market forces this summer.”

The festival – due to start this weekend – is one of several casualties so far this summer, including the Redfest and the Isle Of Skye festival. Glastonbury only sold out on the day the event started.

Wild In The Country was to take place tomorrow (July 5) at Knebworth Park, with a line-up including Hercules And Love Affair and Richie Hawtin.

Last week Icelandic singer Bjork cancelled her headline slot at the festival, citing the event's "volatile nature" and organisers' inability "to secure any staging, sound and lighting".

Many in the live industry have raised concern about the over-supply of festivals this summer, Musicweek.com also reports.
