Music Trade News magazine to be merged with MI Pro to create sole B2B outlet for UK MI market
UK publisher Intent Media has acquired UK MI title Music Trade News and will merge the title with its own music trade monthly and website MI Pro, the sister magazine to Audio Pro International.
The deal has been agreed with MTN publisher MB Media in response to the market’s on-going desire for a single trade magazine.
This will provide a unified landscape, something that all sectors of the business have been crying out for during the two years that both mags have been appearing side by side.
MB Media will continue to publish its portfolio of consumer music titles and events, while MI Pro will incorporate the MTN brand. In addition, MB Media director Graham Butterworth will support MI Pro in a consultancy role during the handover.
“When we took the decision to acquire and re-launch MI Pro two and a half years ago, we weren’t aware of MB’s plans to launch a trade title.
They, in turn, were not aware that MI Pro was about to be brought back stronger than ever. So, both titles emerged at the same time, to the slight bemusement of the MI industry, which never saw the need for two competing magazines," said Intent Media managing director Stuart Dinsey.
"While both have enjoyed success in the intervening period, it remains true that two trade mags is probably one too many, and I’m delighted that discussions with MB have lead to this simple solution.”
MB Media recently established the London International Music Show as one of the premier events in the global MI calendar, with a thriving trade element.
