New agreement allows digital networking of Neumann’s microphones
The collaboration between Neumann.Berlin and Optocore enables transport, distribution and routing of Neumann digital microphone audio signals and control data using one digital network - one network connection for all signals with distance limitations.
Known for producing premium microphones for the past 80 years, Neumann.Berlin recently developed the Solution D Series of digital microphones with AES42 interfaces. Solution D offers high-quality A/D conversion, specially developed synchronization technology and the capability of controlling standard microphone parameters and various integrated signal-processing functions remotely.
Audio signals are available at any point of the network as AES/EBU and MADI as well as conventional analog format. OPTOCORE developed a RJ45 to Sub-D adapter cable allowing every OPTOCORE device equipped with a RS485 interface to communicate with Neumann microphones. Neumann now offers an AES42 to RS485 and AES/EBU converter with two microphone channels; an eight-channel version will be introduced soon.
The converter (DMI-2) is remotely controlled via RS485 using a PC/MAC. All signals can now be transmitted via Optocore fiber optic networks to and from Neumann Solution D Series Microphones using Neumann DMI-2 interfaces. This also works with any other microphone as long as it is AES42 compatible. The complete audio production signal chain is entirely digital using the OPTOCORE network.
The OPTOCORE fiber optic network offers flexibility with regards to its output format, cable length and position of control for high-profile audio productions, studio and broadcast applications. Neumann DMI-2 can be controlled over extremely long distances with a PC connected to an OPTOCORE device. Optocore offers the equivalent interface for MADI, AES/EBU or analog output.
