BVE 2012: Audio-Technica debut Anniversary mics & A&H GLD mixer in UK

Audio-Technica is to use the BVE 2012 event to deliver the UK debut of its 50th Anniversary Limited Edition mics and will showcase the Allen & Heath GLD series mixer at its stand.

Audio-Technica was founded in 1962 by Hideo Matsushita in Tokyo and in order to celebrate the 50 years milestone they have released six limited edition mics and two professional headphones.

The six new mics are the AT4050URUSHI and AT4050/LE multi-pattern condensers, AE6100/LE hypercardioid dynamic, AE5400/LE cardioid condenser, AE4100/LE cardioid dynamic and the ATM25/LE hypercardioid dynamic microphones.

The two headphones are the ATH-M50/LE and ATH-PRO700Mk2ANV.

Both the mics and headphones will feature a unique 50th Anniversary design and colour scheme. What is more the AE5400/LE, AT4050URUSHI and AT4050/LE will come in their own specially handcrafted wooden case.

Furthermore, the LE models (AE5400/LE, AT4050/LE and AE4100/LE mic and AE5400/LE headphones) will have a special silvered metallic ‘Anniversary’ finish which features a blue accent.

So what about the AT4050URUSHI and ATH-PRO700Mk2ANV? The URUSHI (pictured left) will feature a traditional Japanese Urushi lacquer finish with hand-painted maple leaves. Equally, the DJ-specific ATH-PRO700Mk2ANV features an edgy black-and-gold finish.

What is particularly interesting is that the ATM25/LE sees the re-emergence of the classic ATM25 hypercardioid dynamic mic. According to Audio-Technica, the company chose to bring back this special edition of the classic full-sounding and high SPL-handling model after input from end-users and dealers.

Audio-Technica is also showcasing the Allen & Heath GLD series mixer at their booth after they took over the UK distribution of the kit on February 1st.

The Allen & Heath GLD digital mixing system has been covered in more depth by Audio Pro International earlier at its release at NAMM 2012. However, the headlines for the system are that the central GLD-80 mixer includes 48 input channels and massively flexible.

As the Managing Director at Allen & Heath, Glenn Rogers, explained previously: “Key to the system is GLD’s remote plug ’n play I/O audio racks for flexible, easy set-up system building”. Doing this means that users can build the GLD system in 28, 36 or 44 mic input systems.

The primary rack is the AR2412 which provides 24 XLR inputs and 12 XLR outputs. When this is used in conjunction with up to two AR84 expander racks—which add 8 XLR inputs and 4 outputs each—the system can be expanded hugely.

The system can be connected over 120m CAT5 runs using Allen & Heath’s dSnake protocol, which provides control to the remote preamp.

Standard Allen & Heath iLive audio I/O cards for Dante, MADI, EtherSound and A&H’s ACE protocols can be fitted to the GLD-80.

Also on show will be Allen & Heath’s XB-14 radio broadcast mixer. According to A&H, the XB-14 would be ideal for a wide range of applications including small radio or internet broadcast studios to larger studios with multiple rooms.

The XB-14 is ideally suited to such environments with telephone communication modules, mic fader start sensing for external connection, stereo channel start/cue outputs for CD deck transport control and separate headphone mix and outputs for guests.

A two-stage pre-amp design offers an expansive gain range (69dB) with exceptionally low noise while each mono input is equipped with 3-band EQ, carefully designed to offer maximum performance on a variety of sources.

Broadcast Video Expo 2012 is taking place at Earl’s Court in London between February 14th and 16th.

The Audio-Technica stand can be found at G42 at BVE2012.
