The European Festival Awards is returning to the Oosterport Congress Centre in Groningen, Holland on January 9th 2013 and the longlists for the nine categories have been announced.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to once again be hosting these celebrations for the great European festival producers; many of which have had a tough time this year in their commitment to entertaining the many millions of festival-goers around the continent.” Says co-founder of the Festival Awards, Steve Jenner.
The Best Major Festival category is for events with 40,000 and above capacities that have hosted the worlds biggest acts and the longlist for this year includes the EXIT Festival (Serbia) and Sonisphere (Finland).
The list for Best Medium-Sized festival caters for events between a 10,000 and 39,999 capacity and features a selection including Germany’s Berlin Festival and I Love Techno in Belgium.
Voters can select the likes of Blues in Hell (Norway) and Creepy Teepee (Czech Republic) in the Best Small Festival category whilst in the Best New Festival longlist celebrates the best newest entrants into the festival scene.Article continues below
The Cure and The Stone Roses feature on the star-studded list for Headliner of the Year whilst Alabama Shakes and Anna Calvi grace the line-up for Newcomer of the Year.
Completing the award categories are the Best Indoor Festival, Best European Line-Up and Anthem of the Year, an award that includes The Black Keys’ ‘Lonely Boy’ and Euro 2012 favorite ‘Seven Nation Army’.
“The Festival Awards Europe are getting more and more important for the European Festival industry as a recognition and motivation for many promoters who do a fantastic job during the year.” Says Christof Huber, Chairman of Yourope, The European Festival Association.
