New study reveals Britons prefer music to film and TV

Audio-Technica has conducted a study into the nation’s musical habits, revealing that Southerners and Scots are the most fanatical.

The survey came about as part of Audio-Technica’s ‘sounds of the summer’ celebrations, with over 1000 people questioned. 96 per cent of people said they would give up film for a year instead of facing a year without music, with a further 73 per cent saying they would ditch live sport in favour of music.

Interestingly, it was also revealed that 37 per cent would opt for music over televsion and 34 per cent claimed they would prefer a year without sex rather than a year without music.

Audio-Technica also asked people how long they would queue for to get tickets for their ‘ultimate’ music festival. 11 per cent revealed that they would do so overnight to ensure entry to their ultimate show.

Audio-Technica senior UK marketing manager Harvey Roberts said, “The UK is a nation with a long and distinguished history in producing world class music, so it’s no surprise to see such fanaticism towards music.

“The research shows that the majority of us actively listen to four-hours of music a day, which equates to more than 60 days a year. That is some serious listening time, and with a fifth of people preferring to use headphones, it makes sense to ensure you’ve got the very best equipment to make your experience as enjoyable as possible.”

The study also highlighted people's desire to express their love of music publicly, with three quarters of those asked admitting to breaking into song while driving, 20 per cent outwardly singing at work, 15 per cent singing in the street and 11 per cent  dancing in the street.
