Peavey has announced that it has again been asked to provide the sound system for the main stage at the London International Music Show (LIMS) from June 11-14, 2009. The system will comprise two hangs of ten Versarray 212s (Peavey’s flagship system) supplemented by ten 218 subs, driven by Crest amplification.
A Peavey system was also used last year for the inaugural LIMS, when Yngwie Malmsteen and Joe Satriani headed the list of stars performing (along with The Blockheads, who made a special appearance at the exclusive Peavey-sponsored exhibitor party).
This year’s line-up includes Jan Akkerman, whose playing in the 1970s with Dutch prog-rock band earned him the accolade of ‘best guitarist in the world’ from the readers of Melody Maker, pushing Eric Clapton into second place. Now a busy session and solo artist, Akkerman is renowned for his musicality and technical expertise.
Country-rocker Albert Lee will also be demonstrating his dazzling hybrid picking style with his regular UK band, Hogan’s Heroes. In his case, there was no need for the readers of Melody Maker to endorse him as the greatest guitarist in the world. Eric Clapton went on the record to say this himself, while also paying Lee the compliment of asking him to play in his own band.
The Swans, featuring TM Stevens and Marco Mendoza take to the main stage on the Saturday afternoon, while LIMS stalwarts Phil Hilborne, Nicko McBrain and friends play the 4pm slot on the Saturday and Sunday. Steve Vai, who is also presenting masterclasses at LIMS, will join them on stage. Further acts are due to be announced.
“This is a fantastic showcase for music, musicians and the equipment that goes with it, and Peavey is proud to be playing its part in presenting such a talented line-up – including many of my personal idols – to the visitors at LIMS,” said Clive Roberts, managing director of Peavey Europe. “Last year’s show was a fantastic advertisement for the UK music scene and we had no hesitation in giving the thumbs up to the organiser’s request for Peavey PA on the main stage again this year.”
Having been swamped by visitors at last year’s show, this year the company has booked double the stand space, to allow it to display even more of its products, ranging from guitars, effects and amps right through to gigging PA. Several debuts are scheduled, including first UK showings for the new EuroSys portable PA system, the Joe Satriani-designed JSX 50 head amp and the IPR range of ultra lightweight and efficient power amps.
