PL+S 2010: Alcons Audio enters the touring market

Alcons Audio has announced that it is bringing its pro-ribbon technology to the touring and larger installation markets with the launch of the LR24 system at Prolight + Sound.

The new line array system is the result of three years work by Alcons managing director Tom Back and his team. Designed to be able to deliver the same SPL of equivalent products in the mid-size line-array category, but with 15dB less distortion, the company is stating that the LR24 system sets a new benchmark in terms of SPL, projection control and sound quality.

The system is a complete package, comprising line-array, line-array bass, ground-stacked subs, multi-channel amplification and processing. All parts of it have been developed from the ground-up, resulting in three pending patents. All components are on show, including the LR24 mid-size three-way line-array, featuring an all-new pro-ribbon mid-high transducer platform; the LM24 low-frequency array-extension; BQ211 high-impact sub; BC543 self-contained cardioid sub and the ALC Sentinel - a l four channel DSP-based controller with full Class D amplifier stages onboard.

“We feel that the time has come to turn three years of research into a new range of Alcons solutions,” says Tom. “Hi-Fi quality sound at concert SPLs has always been the Holy Grail of sound reinforcement. Now it is finally available and it marks the next step in the position of Alcons in the pro-audio market.”

lso on show are the production version of the LR7 micro pro-ribbon line-array, including the LR7B micro line-array bass unit. Despite its compact size, the LR7 system is a precision sound system with a superior size/weight:throw ratio, ideal for A/V projects where excellent sound from a compact system is a key requirement.

The LR7 can be produced in any colour and has been described by German magazine Production Partner as “a pure delight, with both lab tests and listening impression being highly convincing”, as well as being nominated for Best PA System in the Pro-Audio category of the 2010 Musikmesse International Press Awards.

Additionally, Alcons is showing the Cinema Ribbon Monitor System (CRMS) three-way reference cinema sound system. Alcons developed CRMS as a reference quality system for sound-for-picture applications, with fully matched loudspeaker, processing and amplifier components. The first system has already been installed in the Norwegian Film Institute in Oslo.

Other Alcons products on show include VR8 monitors and BF151 subwoofers, which are on demonstration to enable visitors to hear the quality performance of Alcons pro-ribbon systems.
