Powersoft joined forces with British loudspeaker specialist Traction Sound for this year’s Bestival on the Isle of Wight, UK.
The Italian power amp manufacturer supplied six K10 switch-mode amplifiers to drive both the 'Hidden Disco' tent and the 'Ambient Forest' area, providing 72kW of power in just 6RU spaces (12kW per amp).
It was Jonny Goodwillie of Traction Sound's friendship with festival owner Rob Da Bank that led to the opportunity for both brands to showcase their products at one of the most high profile live events in the UK.
The exercise had been to “prove the compatibility of the systems and prove our capabilities as a production team. The aim was to get in front of DJs, bands, hire companies and sound engineers – effectively creating a big demo room,” Goodwillie said.
Traction Sound, which has enjoyed a close relationship with Powersoft since the launch of its SDS range, had already tested the reliability and quality of the amplifiers and had been in contact with Powersoft’s Matteo Bianchini before selecting Powersoft Dcell amp modules for its active loudspeaker system.
“All the DJs have been really impressed with the FOH and monitor set-up – and the crowd have loved it too. Our rig smashed it and kept people dancing 15 hours a day and didn't miss a beat. Now that’s the way to do a festival,” Goodwillie continued.
In the 'Ambient Forest' two Atlas single 18" bass bins and Kodiak mid tops (with two Soft Dome Source SDS horns and 12" driver) were deployed, running through two Powersoft K10s.
Meanwhile, in the 'Hidden Disco', a pair of Hades infrasonic bandpass subs were placed on each side of the stage, driving the bottom end down to 22Hz, along with a pair of Zeus V4 twin 18 high-output bandpass-horn subwoofer loudspeakers and four Kodiak SDS mid tops powered by four Powersoft K10 amplifiers.
Fully digitally controlled and with a serial PC communication port as standard, the K10 is available with either or both a KDSP add-on board and KAESOP Ethernet/AES3 interface. Equipped with both options, the K10 DSP+AESOP turns into a fully integrated power source, with "state-of-the-art" sound shaping – remotely controllable using Armonia Pro Audio Suite software.
