Toby Alington celebrates API Award success

Having lead the audio broadcast for the 18th time at this year’s Brit Awards, not to mention handling the prestigious Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert this summer, Toby Alington is now celebrating his second consecutive API Industry Excellence Awards success, scooping the Broadcast Engineer of the Year gong.

The past 12 months have seen Alington’s services put to use on a raft of prestigious events, such as Adele’s Live at the Royal Albert Hall show, the MTV Europe Music Awards and hit TV show The Voice, not forgetting the small matter of the aforementioned Diamond Jubilee concert.

Alington’s latest API Award success marks the second consecutive year that he has been recognised by the industry for his extraordinary contribution to broadcast and post production, picking up last year’s Studio Engineer of the Year Award. Commenting on his latest award, Alington said: ”With all my live television music work, I was delighted to pick up the Broadcast Engineer award for 2012. My huge thanks to the audio teams who worked on these shows over the last year, and to my great team at RSP (Richmond Studios Productions) for all their support and hard work.

“The pinnacle in terms of complexity was undoubtedly the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee concert, and I have a huge number of people to thank for making that one work so successfully, and for keeping us on air for three hours! I’d also like to say a huge posthumous thank you to the wonderful Keith Grant who died earlier this year – a great engineer, teacher, mentor and friend for the past 30 years.

“Let’s see what the artists have to give to us all in the coming year, and I will do my best to live up to the accolade of Best Broadcast Engineer – high praise indeed!”
